Lee Min Ho, “I Want to Receive the Top Excellence Award”

“I would like to challenge myself to win the top excellence award this year! Hahaha”

Born as the year of rabbit, Lee Min Ho(24) revealed his New Year’s resolution for 2011.

Lee Min Ho reached his stardom on KBS2 Drama “Boys Over Flowers” in 2009, and was also recognized for his role in MBC “Personal Taste” last year. His next drama will be SBS “City Hunter” which is planning to air in May of this year.

We asked him, “What’s your biggest hope?” Lee Min Ho replied with a bright smile, “I only have one thought, and that is my upcoming drama ‘City Hunter.’ Just like what I’ve always done in the past, I would like to give it my best and hope for the best.”

Recently, Lee Min Ho’s day starts off with working out, and ends with working out. From time to time, he will go to his favorite cafe in Seoul Gangnam to enjoy a cup of coffee with his acquaintances.

We were able to have this sudden interview with him because of his simple(?) daily routines. We went to his favorite cafe and met him by chance, and we asked him if we could interview him. However, he responded, “If we meet again by chance, I promise to have an interview then.” Our eyes met again at the VIP movie premiere for “Children…” Now, a few days have past and we’re sitting here at the same cafe enjoying the interview.

“Now that I think about it, I haven’t had an interview after ‘Boys Over Flowers.’ Haha. I’m really busy working out these days. This is my first time ever working out so hard like this. I go to action school three times a week. I have weight training class every day, and I’m also learning how to swim. Because of the workouts, I was able to lose weight on my face. I sometimes come to this cafe just to relax.”

While he was getting off the van with a refreshing iced Americano in his hand, one fan came up to him and asked him for an autograph. She had a young daughter who was a big fan of him, and shyly handed him the paper to sign.

“I feel thankful [for my fans]. Lee Min Ho was able to exist because of the love he received from his fans. However, there was a time when I became impatient because people did not notice me. I have an optimistic personality. Haha. Nowadays, there’s a lot more people who notice me, so I always believe that I need to do my best. I want to return their love as well.”

“City Hunter” will be his first drama in 2011, and will also be his third drama overall. He puts a lot of love and effort into each of his work. The upcoming drama is adapted from a famous Japanese manga written by Hojo Tsukasa. Lee Min Ho will be playing the main character as a charismatic yet heartwarming CIA agent, and will show a different type of charm throughout the drama.

“I was able to win the Best Newcomer Award for KBS through ‘Boys Over Flowers.’ I also won the Excellence Award for MBC ‘Personal Taste’ last year. For this year, I would like to win the Top Excellence Award for SBS ‘City Hunter.’ Haha. I am earnestly preparing myself, so please watch over me. Also, Sports Seoul readers, please have a Happy Lunar New Year!”

“City Hunter” has put together the ‘2011 Super Hot Dream Team’

A dream team has come together for SBS’s new Wednesday/Thursday drama, “City Hunter“.

Screenwriter Hwang Eun Kyung, who wrote the script for the recent SBS drama, “Daemul“, will be joining “City Hunter”, which is scheduled to broadcast its first episode on May 25th.

Screenwriter Hwang wrote up to the 6th episode of “Daemul”, leading to the early increase in viewer ratings. She has received much love from the public for her medical drama, “New Heart“, and her political drama, “Daemul”. However, she was disappointed with having to leave in the middle of “Daemul”, and she is determined to express herself freely and show the public her full writing skills.

‘City Hunter’ is an original script based on the world-famous novel by Japan’s Tsukasa Hojo. Since it became public that Korea would be the first remake of this story into a drama, ‘City Hunter’ has been receiving worldwide attention.

Producer Jin Hyuk from ‘Brilliant Legacy‘ and ‘Prosecutor Princess‘, actor Lee Minho, and writer Hwang have come together to create what has become known as the “2011 Super Hot Dream Team”.

‘City Hunter’ has switched the setting from Tokyo 1980 to Seoul 2011, and according to the original story structure, the protagonist becomes a city hunter and his character develops while resolving gratifying cases.

Lee Min-ho Upgrades the Dandy

Lee Min-ho Upgrades the Dandy

Lee Min-ho is back to doing what he does best, modeling that lean body of his in dandy style.

Fans are ecstatic for Lee Min-ho’s return to the dandy style he did so well in “Personal Taste,” co-starring Son Ye-jin.

This time, the tall flower boy is modeling for Trugen‘s spring/summer styles, which fans are happily calling the “kae-chwi look” (개취룩, from a shortening of the title of the drama “kae-in-e chwi-hyang” 개인의 취향, “Personal Taste” + “look” in Konglish), which is becoming Lee Min-ho’s own personal brand of the ever-popular “dandy” style in Korea, which is a semi-casual, semi-preppy look usually including some combination of pressed pants and button-down shirts and/or vests and sweaters (think J. Crew, for POPSEOULers in the States). Though Trugen usually sits on the more business-y side, Lee Min-ho still manages to channel the dandy in his photo shoot.

Wouldn’t you like to have your own kae-chwi Min-ho?

3 Great Actors

Movie Director Kang Woo Suk said that he encountered many potential actors.

On last week’s episode of MBC “7 Days of Miracle,” Director Kang Woo Suk made an appearance on the show to barter his precious items with Jo Soomi. While he was talking about the films that he directed, he also mentioned three actors he believed to have a lot of potential.

On the day of the broadcast, Director Kang Woo Suk said to MC Kim Jae Dong, “The best thing about filming a movie is when you discover the actor’s potential,” and began to talk about his encounter with amateurs growing into stars.

The first actor was Jung Jae Young. Jung Jae Young worked with Director Kang Woo Suk in the movie “Silmido” as a supporting actor. The director pulled the actor aside to tell him, “I believe that you will become great star. I know you will.”

The second actor is Lee Min Ho. When the director first saw Lee Min Ho, he was impressed by his height and deep eyes for such a young actor. When Lee Min Ho was only a newcomer, the director said to him, “Because of your amazing eyes, you will become a great actor.”

The third actor is “Bad Guy” Kim Nam Gil. Director Kang Woo Suk believed that if Kim Nam Gil portrayed a mix of evil and mellow character, he will become a great actor.

On the other hand, Director Kang Woo Sung jokingly stated how it was difficult for him to contact these actors who are now famous but were unknown back then.

Lee Min Ho Awarded as the Best Dresser

Lee Min Ho Awarded as the Best Dresser

Actor Lee Min Ho’s outfit from the year end awards show is a hot topic.

From last year’s MBC Drama Awards, Lee Min Ho’s outfit received a lot of attention for its fashion.

His sleek, navy colored suit with a black outline showed a sense of fashion at the awards show.

On the other hand, he showed up at the KBS Drama Awards with a more comfortable looking black suit with a red shirt which was the highlight of the outfit, and matched with the red carpet.

A fashion critique stated, “The black colored collar and the bow tie highlighted his navy colored suit which made his outfit look simple yet stylish. His tall height and small face fit perfectly with his outfit…” and awarded him as the best dresser.

Lee Min Ho’s stylist designed both his navy suit and black suit, and many celebrities such as Hyun Bin from “Secret Garden” requested for the black suit with the red shirt.

Jung Hye Jin, Chief Designer of EAG and Lee Min Ho’s current stylist, stated, “Lee Min Ho has a really nice body structure. His legs are long, so it was difficult trying to find outfits that would fit him besides some overseas brands, so I prepare a lot for his outfits,” and, “Instead of having him wear the usual black outfit at the awards show, especially for someone who’s known to be a hot and young fashionista, I thought a darker blue color would highlight his amazing body instead.”

Lee Min Ho won the Excellence Award in 2010 for his appearance in MBC Drama “Personal Taste,” and is currently preparing for his upcoming drama in May called “City Hunter.”
